Since hitting the scene three years ago, the group has continually expanded its horizons, gigging throughout the Northwest and West Coast. They frequently perform in area talent showcases including billing as featured artists at the Juneteenth Celebration, Alberta Street Fair, Fred Meyer Grand opening, opening for E-40, Jammin 95.5 Street team events, and they were favorites of the BuckHead Z100 morning show. They even had a promotional song in rotation for six weeks on Z100. [more]

  • Still a Good Day - Ice Cube didn't have to use his AK
    By Thomas Fawcett

Twenty years ago, O'Shea Jackson turned the rap world on its ear-hole with an eight-word lyrical missile announcing his arrival.

"Straight outta Compton, crazy motherf****r named Ice Cube!"

Nowadays, Cube, 38, spends more time a few miles and a world away in Hollywood, the same Hollywood he threatened to leave in ashes on Public Enemy's "Burn Hollywood Burn. [more]

Russell Simmons has been pushing young people to vote, but for a while there, it was looking as if the music industry heavyweight would have trouble casting his own ballot.

  • Black History Month and Hip Hop
Hip hop music has been influencing Black American history for over 30 years. PDXRap choose five songs that we feel strongly stood out.

In 1982, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five release "The Message" on Sugar Hill Records. The song peaked at #4 on the music charts. It was one of the first songs to describe the inner city life to mainstream America.

Public Enemy releases their debut album "Yo! Bum Rush The Show" in 1987. [more]

Amy Winehouse grabs 5 Grammys, she may have been physically absent from the Grammy Awards on Sunday, but her presence was strong as the famously troubled singer won five trophies, including song and record of the year for her autobiographical hit "Rehab."

Sprung from a rehabilitation clinic to perform via satellite from London, Winehouse delivered a stirring, defiant performance of the hit that has defined her recent fall from grace. [more]
